A General Dynamics subsidiary will continue to develop a tactical missile launcher system for the U.S. Navy‘s future Ohio-class submarine replacement under an $89.8 million contract modification.
The Navy has asked General Dynamics unit Electric Boat to acquire long-lead missile tube components for the Common Missile Compartment development initiative, the company said Thursday.
The modification comes under a potential five-year, $2.5 billion contract that Electric Boat won in December 2012 to research and build a new ballistic missile submarine for the Navy.
Electric Boat is scheduled to begin construction of the underwater vessel in 2021.
