Kongsberg Defence Systems has been awarded a NOK220 million (USD27.3 million) contract by the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency to upgrade the weapon system interface subsystem in the Royal Norwegian Navy's (RNoN's) Type 210 Ula-class diesel-electric submarines (SSKs).
To be implemented over a four-year period, the contract covers the introduction of a new Torpedo Board Interface (TBI) on the six Ula-class boats.
The contract is the latest in a series of phased Ula-class combat system upgrades delivered by Kongsberg. Previous efforts have focused on sonar inboard processing, command and weapon control, and enhanced connectivity.
The new TBI contract includes hardware and software upgrades for the interface between the weapon and the combat system.
