SOUTH Australia is officially joining forces with old foe Victoria in a bid to ward off threats to send the nation’s $50 billion future submarine project overseas.
Premier Jay Weatherill said yesterday he and Victorian counterpart Daniel Andrews would jointly fund a campaign that would state the case to keep as much defence work in Australia as possible.
“We have both committed resources to it,’’ Mr Weatherill said.
“We have already agreed to jointly fund a campaign. We will be communicating our message using all of the various media.’’
A decision to replace the Collins Class submarines is still 10 months away.

Mr Weatherill would not reveal how much would be spent on the joint initiative but said it was also about the two working together on policy as well as a public campaign.
During last November’s Victorian state election, Mr Weatherill travelled to Melbourne to campaign for Mr Andrews, who was then still Labor opposition leader.

The duo held a press conference at the Williamstown docks to highlight the threats to that state’s shipbuilding future.
